How to Be An Effective Christian
Bible Lesson Introduction
This bible lesson module is titled How to be an effective Christian. How many times have you listened to someone speaking about the bible and you had to shake your head because they did not know what they were talking about? The bible says in 2 Timothy 2:15 “Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needed not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.” Reading and studying the bible is very important to all of us. We included four lessons on our site as starting lessons that we believe are important to us as believers:
(1) The Importance of Faith: Below on this page.
(2) Understanding the Holy Spirit: http://www.iamforchrist.org/bible-studies-lesson-2-the-holy-spirit/
(4) Spending Private Time with God: http://www.iamforchrist.org/spending-time-with-god/
We also provide a Resource page on our site that provides links to various well know website as an additional study tool: http://www.iamforchrist.org/resources/
Our goal is to add test to each of our lessons by February 2019. Thank you in advance for studying the word of truth. May God bless you with additional wisdom and understanding of his will for your life. This is our prayer, Amen.
We pray and agree with my brother or sister that they may receive an impartation of your Holy Spirit. Use them for the advancement of your Kingdom. Let them be soul winners reconciling the lost and the return of the backslider back to you Lord. May they be blessed with the wisdom and knowledge required for the battle ahead. Give them the courage to fight the good fight. Equip them with the faith of a warrior. This is our prayer. Let us say, Amen.
The Importance of Faith Lesson #1
This lesson goal is to give you a better understanding of the importance of your faith in Jesus. Chapter 11 is known as the faith chapter of the bible. We cannot be a soul winner without faith in God. Secondly, we must believe and have faith in what we are doing. Here is what the book of Hebrews says about faith:
The Christian faith is the experience of living in a dynamic and new personal relationship with God through the transforming and indwelling power of Jesus in your body and life.
Faith is defined as belief with strong conviction; firm belief in something for which there may be no tangible proof; complete trust, confidence, reliance or devotion. Faith is the opposite of doubt.
How Does the Bible Define Faith?
Faith is possibly the single-most important element in the Christian life.
Let’s looks at passages in the Bible that speak of faith:
Hebrews 11:6 states, “And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him.” (NIV)
Faith, then, is key to pleasing God. We need faith first to come to God—to believe he exists and to trust him for our salvation. Then, our continued faith—the kind that causes us to seek him daily—offers the promise of a dynamic, rewarding walk with God.
Faith and the Christian Life
The Bible gives this description of faith in Hebrews 11:1: “Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see.” (NIV)
Hebrews chapter 11 is often called the “Faith Hall of Fame.” In this notable passage, the writer ofHebrews introduces an impressive list of heroic characters from the Old Testament. These men and women and their stories stand out to encourage and challenge our faith.
Some of the heroes are well-known Bible personalities, while others remain anonymous. Like the 12 disciples, they were ordinary people, just like you and me. They became heroes of faith by overcoming their doubts and putting their trust wholly in God.
God Is the Source of Faith
However, we can’t take credit for our faith. Scripture explains that the source of faith is God: “For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith–and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God–not by works, so that no one can boast.” (Ephesians 2:8-9, NIV)
Mustard Seed Faith
When the disciples were unable to heal a man with a demon, they asked Jesus, ” ‘Why couldn’t we drive it out?’ He replied, ‘Because you have so little faith. Truly I tell you, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you.’ ” (Matthew 17:19-20, NIV)
Faith Comes By Hearing
So how can build up our faith? Faith comes through hearing the Word of God: “For Isaiah says, ‘Lord, who has believed what he has heard from us?‘ So faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ.” (Romans 10:16-17, ESV)
We also included a link on the life of the Apostle Paul and the early church. It is important to understand the life of the Apostle Paul, when talking about faith. Apostle Paul is by far the second most important person in the bible. Fourteen of the twenty-seven books in the New Testament have traditionally been credit to the Apostle Paul, and approximately half of the Book of Acts of deals with Paul’s life and works. Our Christian faith, our church leadership and organization, and theology has greatly been impact by the leadership and direction of the Apostle Paul. Paul writes in Rom 1:16-17. Verse 16: For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God to salvation for everyone who believes, for the Jew first and also for the Greek. Verse 17: For in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith to faith; as it is written, “The just shall live by faith.” (NKJ).
