Communicate with God by Spending Time in Prayer

One of the best ways of communicating with God is through our spoken prayers. We should always put God first in our day, it will impact the way we face each day. The earlier we wake up, the better. Time spent with God alone is well worth the time spent. Never ever forget that praying is a two-party communication between you and God. Let me say this a different way, praying is a team sport. Praying connects you to the Spirit of God. You pray into the atmosphere. God hears and responds from heaven. You listen from earth for that still quiet voice or by which ever ways that God communicates with your spirit. God will confirm and answer your prayers based on His timing and His will for your life.

Always start off your prayers by honoring and thanking Him for being your heavenly Father and for everything that He has done and will do in your life. Ask God for forgiveness. Pray for your needs and for others that you know. Especially, for the once that you said that you are praying for. Please understand that praying is NOT always about you, your needs, but more about blessing and thanking God for being God. A simple conversation with God where you don’t ask for something is just as rewarding and a blessing too God as well. Amen

Plan Your Time to Communicate with God Every day

Plan the time and go to your secret place, invite God in and communicate with Him daily. (Matthew 6:6) says “go to your secret place, pray and God will reward you”. God loves hearing from you. He said in (Jeremiah 33:3) call upon me and I shall answer you. Your prayer doesn’t have to be long, complicated or religious sounding. Praying is really about you communicating with God just like you would communicate with your earthly father, but at a spiritual level. Praying is not just a once an early morning event. You can communicate all day with your heavenly Father, if you like too. The bible in (1 Thessalonians 5:16-18) says always rejoice, pray without ceasing, giving thanks to God in all circumstances. This is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you. Learning how to listen to God’s instructions for your life is just as important. Amen

 Your Prayer is a Spiritual Weapon

God has armed us with a number of spiritual weapons. Your prayers are one of the most powerful tools and spiritual weapons in your arsenal against the wiles of the enemy (Ephesians 6:11). Prayers also energizes the heart of every believer in Christ through the power of the Holy Spirit. Consistent prayers also release the power of God’s blessing on your life circumstances and over the lives of those that God has put in your path to pray for. Our prayers connect us with God, strengthen us for the fight, and keep us grounded. They open a dialogue with Him and reveal things to us that we can only learn from Him. Read (Jeremiah 33:3) ‘Call to me and I will answer you and tell you great and unsearchable things you do not know.’

When we’re wrestling with something and feeling like we’ve reached a dead end, our prayer brings us into the presence of the one who makes a way when there is no way. Connecting your Prayers to the power of the Holy Spirit will allow you to overcome any situation. The bible does say that you are more than a conqueror (Romans 8:17). Your prayers, just like any other weapon, if you pull it out, you must be prepared to use it and you must expect the outcome for what the weapon is designed to do! Amen

Every Christian at one point should consider being a prayer warrior.  A Prayer Warrior is someone who is willing to commit to a daily, heartfelt prayer practice…and who is willing to pray alone or in a group, for others, with others, and even for strangers. (Galatians 6:2)

Always Record What God has Communicated with You  

Record what God has spoken to you in your prayer journal. It is a must that you update or start a prayer journal. In it, just don’t write your prayers. Write bible verses that speak to your heart, write prayer requests for others, write a praise report, or whatever else you feel will connect you to God in worship. Use (Philippians 4:8) to inspire your writing. This is what it says “Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable–if anything is excellent or praiseworthy–think about such things.”

Communicate with God by Spending Time Reading the Bible

Read the Bible, which is God’s written Word. Before you start, ask God to speak to you through its pages. Ask God for the revelation and a good understanding of what you are about to read. Memorize key bible verses as much as you can. Consider reading daily devotions for more understanding. It is always a good practice to have bible study tools at your disposal. It is also a good idea to pre-position your study tools the night before.

1. Start with a good bible, preferably a good study bible. One that you could fully understand. There are so many translations.

2. A focus mind, a teachable heart and a hungry spirit.

3. Bible Commentary and Bible Summary

4. Access to the internet for research

3. Writing materials such as note book, journal, pens, pencil, and highlighters

4. English dictionary

5. A friend or a person that is well versed in the bible that you can call should you have questions about what you are studying

6. Instrumental worship music

7. Your secret place or a quiet space and dedicated time

8. Cup of coffee, soft drink or a bottle of water

These tools are not rules but a guide on what will make your bible study life more effective and interesting. I hope this inspires you to study the word all the more.

One of my Experiences while Spending Quiet Time with God

When you are confronted with life’s difficulties, dangers and or the prospect of death. You learn how to cry out loud and pray before God on bended knees. The part that most believers miss is being quiet and listening to God’s response to their prayer.

Let me share my experience that I had during the 1991 Gulf War. My unit deployed from Germany to the nation of Israel as part of Joint Task Force Patriot missiles in defense of the Nation of Israel. We were assigned to Haifa, Israel, which is located near historical Mount Carmel.  Our mission was to protect Israel against Saddam Hussein’s Iraqi scud missile attacks. Prior to our departure from Germany to the war zone. We received a briefing from our Army Chaplain, a full Colonel indicating that more than sixty percent of us were predicted to die because of Iraq’s Weapons of Mass Destruction. You talk about being scared! The worst part of going to war is that we had to leave our families behind in Germany.

God Communicates with Us through The Holy Spirit

I spent a lot of time on bended knees and thanking God after each Scud missile attack. There were times that I was off duty during the war when the scud missiles were not being fired towards Israel. I was there at our missile site, but was not directly supervising my soldiers that were manning the Patriot missile firing system. This off duty time allowed me the much-needed private time to communicate with God. I would study, pray, and meditate on God’s word. One day after one of those missile attacks, I was praying. I felt God’s Spirit in this room that spoked to me in an audible voice that sounded like water flowing from rivers. He spoke and said here is a word from God the Father.

(1) You have the reassurance that you will live and not die (Psalm 118:17) as a result of your protection of Israel. (2) You have the Father’s blessing that was spoken to father Abraham (Genesis 12:3). The Spirit said you and every soldier and all U.S Forces in Israel in the defense and protection of the Holy Land against the Scud missile attacks are blessed according to what was said to Abraham, and (3) The Holy Spirit instructed me about my calling and responsibilities as a minister according to the Great Commission (Matthew 28:16-20).

I was overwhelmed and speechless. Immediately I recorded my encounter with the Holy Spirit in my bible. Soon after I realized that the Holy Spirit answered one of my prayers. This experience taught me that spending time with God, listening for His voice and be obedient to his word during this difficult time gave me the peace, reassurance, instructions for ministry and unimaginable blessings that are with me and my family even to this day. Amen

God Communicates with Us during Our Quiet Time

You can also experience God’s peace by setting quietly with Him. Ask God to speak to your heart and listen for His still quiet voice. Repeat God’s promises to you as reminder that “he is actually not far from you (Acts 17:27) and don’t forget to write down what God had revealed to you during your quiet time. You will be blessed and the whole world could benefit too. If you are reading this? This is a confirmation that we both can agree and testify that by being obedient to the voice of God during quiet time God produces good fruit. Amen

Psalm 46:10 “Be Still and know that I AM God.” Soak in His presence and Listen for God Voice in your Spirit.

Communicate with God by Spending Time in Worship

God created us for worship. There is no right way or wrong way to worship God, as long as it is done to please Him. In John 4:23-24, Jesus said that we are to “worship the Father in spirit and truth.” You cannot just go through the motions in worship; nor can you just put on a show to make yourself appear holy. But if your worship is centered in spirit and truth, you are doing it right. You can worship God in many different ways. It is a beautiful thing and a gift from God to be able to find Him in a familiar songs or prayers. I like to listen to the artistry of anointed gospel music. This creates a shift in my atmosphere and immediately threshes my spirit into the inner court with God. Communicate with God by Spending Time Fasting

Fasting isn’t merely an act of self-deprivation, but a spiritual discipline for seeking more of God’s fullness. Which means we should have a plan for what positive pursuit to undertake in the time it normally takes to eat. We spend a good portion of our day with food in front of us. One significant part of fasting is the time it creates for prayer and meditation on God’s word or some act of love for others.

Before diving headlong into a fast, craft a simple plan. Connect it to your purpose for the fast. Each fast should have a specific spiritual purpose. Identify what that is and design a focus to replace the time you would have spent eating. Without a purpose and plan, it’s not Christian fasting; it’s just going hungry.

My Personal Best Times Communicating with God

Here are my three best private times that I spend communicating with God (1) First and foremost, is my morning prayers – immediately upon getting up in the morning, even before my feet hit the ground, I give God a shout out and thanksgiving for waking me up and giving me another day of mercies. I then go into my secret place, invite God in and speak my prayer request.  Plant my I AM seeds into the atmosphere and make my I AM declarations known to God. (Examples. I AM a child of God, I AM blessed, I AM more than a Conqueror, I AM for Christ), (2) During my daily devotional time, I read and meditate on God’s words in the quietness of my basement (my secret place) and I sometimes go to my website page for devotional reading: Resources ⋆ I AM for Christ Ministries and lastly, (3) While jogging or walking I invite God to come along with me so that I am alone with Him at the park. I love looking at the beauty of His creations and shouting my admiration into the atmosphere about the marvelous handy work that God has created, while at the same time listening to anointed gospel music from my other website Private Time Music – The Great Commission Pledge (tgcpledge.org). I love singing these songs to God that I hear while joyfully singing His praises along the way.
